HISTORY...

The natural beauty and exclusive resorts around the island made Capri a holiday destination par excellence for celebrities in the 1950s who sought freedom behind their sunglasses and the discretion of upmarket hoteliers.

It has long been assumed that once the day-trippers had been rounded up the super wealthy came out to enjoy Capri at sunset for themselves, but there has always been a current of overnighters defined by their love of aesthetics rather than their budgets.

Founded by the violinist Paul Falco half a century ago, Hotel La Reginella has attracted a stream of artists and intellectuals ever since. Being a cheap hotel overlooking the beautiful waters and enjoying a prime location near the Piazzetta has always given Hotel La Reginella the edge over other budget accommodation in Capri.

The Swedish-born German actress, producer and photographer Kristina Soderbaum, whose last film was the 1994 Night Train To Venice with Hugh Grant, spent time at Hotel La Reginella. She visited with her German director husband, Veit Harlan, (whose niece married director Stanley Kubrick). Harlan liked Capri so much he made the sensible decision to die whilst on holiday on the island.

Capri

Capri is the setting for many myths involving sirens of the sea and the stunning seascape still captures the imagination of many visitors.
